Spring 2021 Capstone Projects

Project Directors & Lead Instructors: Gustavo Leclerc, Maite Zubiaurre, Ursula Heise, Bharat Jayram Venkat, and Anastasia Loukaitou-Sideris

Core collaborators: Todd Presner, Cassie Hoeprich, Cristina Vázquez, and Katherine Taylor-Hasty

Students: UHI 2020-21 Cohort

In past, the Spring offered a time for UHI students to respond to and apply the lessons learned from the research conducted in a city other than Los Angeles, such as Tokyo, Shanghai, or Mexico City. In light of the pandemic, the spring became a Capstone moment for the UHI cohort and projects unpacked Los Angeles and its complexities.

Capstone projects allowed students to apply their various research methods developed in the winter while exploring more specific aspects of Los Angeles. The Capstone courses were taught by UHI faculty, and each Capstone focused on spatial justice issues, from the dynamics of heat to new notions of public spaces as well as the ethics of memorializing overlooked events and denied histories in the digital age.
